Thanks for visiting THE BIG FARM and THE BIG FARM Creamery.
Winter is a good time for planning and dreaming.
Notice there's a new menu option on our web site to visit the Chocorua Girls Soccer Association web pages. This is a new league for girls-only soccer teams in Carroll County. Surprisingly enough, there's no local option for elementary school-aged girls to play on teams of their own, so we're going to see if we can fix that this spring.
I have a short order in to FedCo seeds--leeks, cabbages, etc.; nothing too exciting. I'm saving up for seed potatoes. I haven't grown potatoes in a couple of years, which is a shame. They're a great food, store well, and the pretty little flowers heavy on the bush in early summer alone make the plant worth growing.
In the creamery, cheesemaking continues. Graviera is our new favorite cheese here at THE BIG FARM. It's a Greek cheese, second to feta in popularity there; a slightly sweet, semi-hard cheese which is great for snacking, but also melts and flavors nicely in cooking.
Another project for winter is to get the online farmstand back up and running. In the meantime, enjoy some stories from THE BIG FARM on our Local Flavor page, and best wishes to you for the the new year.
